PERFORMING LIVE

Stevie Soul is an award-winning beatboxer, vocalist, and multimedia artist from Detroit. As a child, Stevie stuttered. When he tried to speak, funny sounds came out of his mouth. He’d always get caught on the first letter of words and struggled to push out the “right” phrase. Eventually, he embraced these funny sounds and converted them into beats and patterns, helping him learn sentence structure, rhythm, and music composition. Once he found his internal rhythm, these sounds became Stevie’s unique form of self-expression, exchanging his childhood struggle for his true talent - beatboxing.

Today, Soul wows audiences with his ability to uncannily recreate the sounds of numerous instruments, such as drums, trumpets, and guitars, using only his mouth, body, and looper. A high-energy performer, Stevie is available for festivals, as well as corporate, holiday, public, and private events.

Regardless of venue, he is well known for his fun and vibrant family-friendly shows. His sets incorporate hip-hip/R&B, contemporary, and classic theme music and mashups, along with live beatboxing and audience participation. Stevie is available to collaborate with a wide variety of artists, bands, and Dj's and will make an unforgettable addition to your next event.

STEVIE SOUL SHARES HIS STORY AND PERFORMS LIVE ON WDET

Growing up in Redford, performer and producer Stevie Soul was bullied for his stutter. It didn’t take him long, however, to turn that adversity into the talent of beatboxing.

Soul stopped by CultureShift to perform live in the WDET studios and share his inspiring story. Soul recently won the inaugural â€śBig Shot” talent competition hosted by the D Brief podcast at Planet Ant Theatre in Hamtramck.

DRIBBLE

Detroit-based beatboxer and performance artist Stevie Soul has teamed up with Detroit baller and sneakerhead Sadelle Moore, otherwise known as StockX’s “sneaker guy”. It's Delle's basketball handling skills that provide the backbeat to Stevie's vocal gymnastics in this one-of-a-kind performance, simply titled "DRIBBLE."

The performance was filmed at St. Cecilia’s gym — an intentional decision meant to pay homage to Detroit’s past. Sacred to local hoops fanatics, the historic West Side church saw NBA legends such as Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Jalen Rose, Earl 'The Twirl' Cureton, Dave Bing, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Bernard King, Isiah Thomas, and even Motown's prince of soul, Marvin Gaye.

I hear sounds and melody in just about everything. I have actually been practicing this concept in my head for years. If I hear a car alarm beeping, I'm quick to add a little backbeat to it. This project is my attempt to document that with other creatives and industries that I admire. I want to combine these sights and sounds in iconic Detroit settings to create multilayered, audio-visual experiences. Most people have heard a ball dribble or jump rope hit the floor a million times before.

Stevie Soul Breathe Cover Promo with Logo Vevo.jpg

BREATHE

“Breathe” is a raw and honest portrait of Stevie Soul as a mature artist who sees the world with cynical eyes. Since the release of his last record, Stevie has grown as a musician, learned some of life's tougher lessons, and expanded his creative pursuits into mediums like film. It is only natural that he would use these experiences to fuel his next project as a very different kind of release.

The location of the film was just as integral to the meaning behind it. Silvio's pizzeria was once an iconic location from Stevie's youth. Now the garden which used to be a goldmine of handmade sculptures, art, and culture has now fallen apart and been taken over by the elements. This unsettling backdrop played as the perfect texture to set the tone for an artist who is grappling with the death of innocence.

UP ALL NIGHT

Stevie Soul is back with his latest audiovisual project: "Up All Night", an RnB beatbox and guitar-driven performance piece. His second release builds upon the aesthetic established with his debut single, "Breathe", while also taking new risks and pushing his voice into a world of neon lights.

Teaming back up with musician Omar Aragones, producer Drew Michael and director David Tappan, the team decided to imbue the video with the theatricality of a live performance. Moody theatrical lighting shifts, long tracking shots, and an incredible view from a rooftop penthouse apartment in the historic Claridge House building near Capitol Park were all used to create a minimalistic, yet mysterious aesthetic. The video was designed as a complement to the track's conflicting emotions of anxiety, regret and gratitude

Add Nicole's velvety yet powerful voice, Stevie's beats and vocal theatrics and Matt's smooth guitar rhythm together and get a fresh take on some classic Christmas and holiday tunes.
